how to add water to the tank using a hose. dechlorinator question~

On tanks larger than 75g+ you should prep your water with prime let it sit for a couple of hours then drain and add. I use multi 32g trash cans for this. The reason for this is it takes the prime some time to mix and the cloro to evaporate with larger water amounts. My small tanks I just python out and refill then add prime right after it's done filling. My large tanks would have mini cycles before I went to letting the water sit.

This was a great thread, the conditioning was the only thing keeping me from buying a python for my tanks

i just drain what level of water i need to do, add the prime dose i need to, and then fill the tank back up with roughly temperature equivalent water. never had a problem with mini cycles and it's a 300 gallon with a 90 gal sump.

Prime before or after doesn't really matter since they neutralize chlorines and chloramines fast

so my bacteria wont be wiped out?

I always turn off my filters before refilling so you could do the same as long as you remember to turn them back on. I forgot to turn them back on once after several years of doing so! But since then I added a feature to remind me, which is having a sponge filter connected to the same switch as the filters. So if I don't see bubbles in my tank then I know the filters are being off.

So what I do is drain 50% (or more depending on feedings) of tank water, add dechlorinator, turn off filters, re-fill water (straight from tap at temperature close to tank water) and then turn filters back on. Repeat weekly...:)
