Out-of-topic question.. What does a raccoon do with your pond? I live in a tropical area have never seen a raccoon before...

They eat fish. :) They're also really smart and can figure out how to bypass most security systems you try to put up to stop them. A bunch of small fish that hide well and reproduce quickly could easily withstand being wiped out overnight by a raccoon. A 10" Koi or Goldfish is an easy target.

Raccoons are a pest, or good for 'country cookin' if your into roadkill stew!

They are cute looking until cornered, then look out, think wolverine! They are intelligent as well, as stated. the last attack left my pond with one brown comet and 3 nickel sized japanese snails. the other 6 kio and goldfish gone and about 6 2.5" diameter snail too, the only things left were my pond net (about 20' away under a bush), scales and shells scattered on the front porch!

I am working on trapping this annoyance currently. But in the spring, I'd like to have mosquito larva eating fish in the pond. Mosquito fish would fit the bill and if needed live food for my golden clown knife or polypterous!:naughty:

They are platies, so are born a little larger. Bigger than 1/4" long. So in just a few days of grazing on the crazy wild-originated aufwuchs in that tank, they sprout to over half an inch. I've only had two batches so far. Fed the first batch out before the second went in, except for one that I missed. Got him later, though. He was a lot bigger than the new fry for sure.

I have seen a few guppy fry as well, the little wisps. I think they got eaten before the siphon did its thing because I can't scare any up anywhere in either tank.

platies?! i had a few born in my tank and it took like 3 months for them to grow to like 3/4"
