i live in Aurora, but i fish everywhere i just fished jackson and got some nice wipers, thinking about heading to john martin...are you talking about fish explorer? i usually catch shad and fish with those but walleye dont seem too fond of them, im a big time wiper/white bass fisher and starting to get into some walleye.

Get a minnow trap.

+1

Seriously...set the trap the day before with a stale piece of bread, collect it in the morning before you leave. It doesn't get any easier or cheaper.

My dad is an avid fisherman and we are in the process of building a minnow livewell out of an old chest freezer. See this done in many baitshops around here. Will be filtered with a cut out overflow and DIY rubbermaid/drawer system wet/dry. The trick is to keep them cold and clean. We will dipnet closeby for them and keep them alive throughout the summer. Not sure about success in breeding them tho.

dont breed shiners, great bait but they only breed during the summer from wat ive read. get a pair of convict cichlids or zebra danios and ull have babies by the dozen for bait. im thinking since convicts are the same shape as sunnies more or less, bass would still love them and danios are fancy minnows so good luck

I was thinking about a minnoe trap i just need to find a nice place to stash it where no one would see it and take it, theres not too many little no name ponds around my area.

let me know how your freezer/minnow tank works out, sounds very interesting.

wont convict cichlids and danios die withing like 5 minutes of being in the cold waters of colorado?

Are you seriously suggesting using non-native fish to fish for native fish. It is behaviors like this that release exotics into water ways and cause invasive species problems. No wonder there is such a push to ban all non native fish from the fish trade.

Please, I beg of you, DO NOT DO THIS. And for the love of all things natural stop encouraging others to do this.
A.) its against the law.
B.) HOLY COW, IS THIS A BAD IDEA

One can hope, right?

^ a big+1! Don't do this, ever. To conceal my traps, I use 50-100lb monofilament fishing line for the line to the trap, throw it out from shore, then tie it of as close to the water as I can, to a small tree or something. Don't do it where there is evidence of people fishing, do it where there are plenty of trees to tangle up rods and such. You shouldn't have a problem with it then.
I've also dropped it off under docks, just tie the line around the beams underneath the decking, and nobody will know it's there but you.

HOLY COW!!!....just ignore this advice! Suggest a nonnative fish use for a bait is VERY BAD.

In my pond minnows usually lay their eggs on the underside of structures in 1ft -3ft of water (in my case rocks) artifically, pallets will provide ample strucure. Also i have seen it recommended that if drive a flat board at 45 degree angle in to the bank of a pond or lake the minnows will spawn on the underside of the wood. and all depending on what type you get some lay their eggs on the underside of lily pads

rosy red minnows can breed several times a year if they are NATIVE to your area that would be that best choice,
