how to breeding aligator gar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not gonna happen. THey can grow to 6 feet in captivity. You literally need a small population and a several acre lake.

You need a lake and a fully mature gar which is really huge.

get them in a lake and wait a few years I imagine

Haha yup that's what I was going to say. Move to the drity south of The USA and buy some land with a good size pound or lake near by. Let Gar go in it. Wait a little while. Then go fishing pretty easy.

I must add, Gars are those type of fish that really need to be spawned in a natural habitat in order to successfully breed. If you placed it in a pond, or lake with plenty of other gars, it is possible that it could happen. People usually spawn them in lakes, or ponds. Even though breeding is fun, it would be best to just sit back and enjoy your fish.

stop. plz. how many people here actually know what it takes? few( and im not really one of them)
alright few things. 1 u need mature gar. If i remember correctly, gator gar need to be about 5 years(males older than females) in order to be sexually mature. this would put the gar probly around 4 ft. 2 for that size gar you would need alot of room. while some other spieces gar have been breed in smaller tank, its not common. But most importantly u need a male and a female. Here is were the problem is. There is no way to desiern which is male and which is female. U may have 2 male or 2 female. blood tests are the only way to tell.

If you still are serious about it, pm e_americanus(or go to gar forum and ask, there is a reason there are sub forums) he knows a ton more than me. i only know a very little on this subject, except it is very hard
