I am getting a 150 gallon 96x18x21 tank and I wanted to make a simple stand for it. Nothing fancy at all, something just to hold it up and look half decent...

What are the tools and wood do i need for this kind of project? Im a college student and have never done anything like this in my life, other than hammering nails into stuff...

If we can make this cheap as possible that would be great too. hehe.

Thanks and happy hoildays,

Thi

There are several DIY threads in the stickies and throughout the DIY section.

I have also had decent luck in doing a google search for tank stands. I built one for my parents' 125 gallon (6' long x1.5' deep) using redwood and oak for about $300.

Box of screws, a few 2x4's, a couple sheets of "bead board" (unfinished paneling really), box of panel nails, circular saw, and a gallon of stain o choice, comes up with this for ~ $100.00. Accents were added later and not included in original cost for a "basic" stand/canopy.
A router was used, but not a must have.
Coors Light in lower left optional after the power tools are finished being used.
125G BTW

Sorry, forgot to mention that the stand I built did have alot of extra's that weren't needed. I put tile on the interior shelf, used solid oak to frame in the exterior, used redwood instead of pine, etc.

If you just go with the 2x4's and some nice plywood, you could get away with under $100.

They aren't really had to do but with zero know how it might be a little tough.. Check with your buddies and see if any of them are handy with wood and tools... I'd hate to see that 150 hit the ground !!!! Then just go by the DIY threads there are plenty good ideas there...
