I've got two JDs I'm breeding guppies for as feeders. The guppy frey grow rather slowly, and the JDs lose interest in any fish smaller than an inch. Is there a healthy way to help the guppy fry grow and/or gain weight faster?
just like big fish live works best for growth.
also just like big fish live is a hassle, but if you want faster growth you have to do it.
Live brine shrimp
I have never used one but the make a hatch-n-feed thing that hangs inside the tank that continuiously fees the shrimp as they hatch.
also using a egg layer such as a convict works better for me. The parents take care of the young and don't eat them once they get the hang of it. And they spawn alot faster than live bearers.
I've got some live blackworms, a large portion. I'll feed them and the other tanks that until it's gone. Probably a week. After two days of it the guppies already look bigger!
Live foods seem to be working quite well. I've been feeding live bloodworms and artemia. Frozen is a close second, but they readily devour flake and crush pellets as well, but don't seem to get as large or colorful from them. Thanks for the tips!
Breed a bigger fish! I have breed convicts in the past to feed but the fry grew soo slow I gave up on them. They did breed right away, under 2 weeks for me in a 20 gal about 80 of them.
But I did mix about 6 types of food togather, some hikari, flakes, sinking pellets, and some other stuff, crushed it up, and they seemed to live that and it had to be super healthy.
