How to care for bettas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Decent write up. Average life span is 5 years, but they do live longer if well taken care of. The one at my dentists office is 7-1/2 years old going on 8! My dentist says if he hits eight they are going to throw a Betta party!:D And he lives in what looks like a gallon bowl!

.......um......idk lol i just know about the tanks up 2 a 10 gallon :D

does anyone know if you can have a betta community in a 90g? I have been seriously considering this because I think they are beautiful fish, but I want 20-30 males. Do you think mass numbers will reduce fighting as it does with other fish?

well it might work but the bettas will probably ya know like fight and most of them will have shreded fins ok well lets see if u heavily plant it you would be able to put...um....6 males and.....18 females but you will ahve shreded fins but not as many but thats just what i think about it cuz u can keep 2 males and 6 females in a 30 gallon (ive done it before) so theorecticially u should be able 2 u make a thread bout this?

This mix is impossible. Males have too much rivalry in their blood to permit it. If you were thinking about the ditches, klongs and swamps where bettas can be found coexisting together, it has to be explained to you that since the vegetation around those places are rather thick, males have very little chance to try targetting a certain rival and attack it. The area is far too wide for them to attempt invading another territory. A tank on the other hand is simply a closed ecosystem where there is too much limits. If you could make it a heavily planted tank, you could get away with 3-4 males but no more than that.
