how to catch a trout

powerbait and kastmaster spoons have worked well for me in the past. Make sure you use lighter test line as well, trout have very good eyes and can spot your line if its really thick.

ok, smaller line! I was fishing for catfish and using cheap 30lbs test line which is really thick! and they didn't bite even when the bait is in front of them!

Try 4-6lbs line. A lot of great trout lures/baits have been mentioned, but for truly big trout, I've had the best luck with 3" GULP! minnows on an 1/8 oz jig head, or and hj8 or hj10 husky jerk, silver with a blue back, or gold with a black back. White is also a good color. Here's some proof that they work for BIG fish, all these are 20-24"....

they are actually 16-20 inches(I think) I see their shadow swim near the surface and some time they jump out of the water like they are catching small fishes.

That is big, you are lucky. When they jump then they are probably going for floating insects. Fly fishing would be good there but if you dont fly fish you can try putting a fly on the end of your line and using a float to cast it out. Try to mimic the bugs colour and size most, as that is the most important thing trout consider for potential food, less so shape is important.

Don't be intimidated by fly fishing its a lot easier than you would think and if you see them coming to the surface they are feeding on bugs. seeing a trout hammering a fly on the surface is one of the coolest ways to catch a fish. get a cheap fly rod and look at the bugs they're feeding and go from there. I started fly fishing three years ago and haven't looked back. I have buddies that spin fish and when the fish are on a program of bugs you can't buy a bite on bait or lures. a couple pics to motivate you.

What type of Trout? If Rainbows i've always had the best luck with dry flies. You have to rig it up on a lead and an adjustable bobber to carry it out.

If you dont fish, try worms or even corn works well.

Corn is illegal in some places in the US. Its hard for them to digest, you might catch some on corn but why doom the fish that eat it that you don't catch?

dude just try for the fly fishing, its not as hard as you think. My roommate just told you what to do and it will get you hooked. you can fish for anything on a fly rod and they make any kind of insect you think of and all that stuff. Heres a few trout and carp all caught on the fly. Should get you a little motivatedDSCF0467.JPGDSCF0155.JPGIMG_5907.JPG
