how to catch a turtle and how long can they last in saltwater?

i was out in my back yard which is along a 3/4 mile long saltwater lagoon when i saw a turtle pop its head up, i was thinking i was seeing things, but it was uindeed a turtle. I spent 35 miutes looking around and i saw it come up twice, but coulndn't catch then it got dark. I plan to look for it tomoorow. so any tips on finding and catching it, i do have a boat. and how long can they last in saltwater?

I think in CA the pond turtle is sometimes found in brackish and not sure if you have soft shells by you but a friend of mine has found them here in brackish.

this looks like a turtle that someone had as a pet and then dumped, i have lived here for 9 years and nevere seen a turtle

the only saltwater "regular type" basking turtles i know are the diamond back terrapins

Poor thing bet it is dehidrated, you did good, it wouldnt last long. Keep it, they are good pets. Do you want a care sheet?
