How to deal with algae?

if it is not a planted tank you can just try only keeping the light on when you are looking at your fish.

or use a bulb that doesn't have the right spectrum for plant growth. i don't think algae grows very well under actinic bulbs. but i could be mistaken

I've got 2w/gal on my tank at home, and no algae. Not enough stuff in the water to help it grow. Here at work, I get algae aplenty, same 2w/gal, but different water source that is high in phosphates, etc.

Mine is too busy eating driftwood to touch the algae.
