So I dont have a kit to detect ammonia just nitrite and nitrates but I am ordering 2 delhezi bichirs and I know they are pretty hard but dont wat to take any chances especaily since I am paying 40$ each plus shipping so is their a way to tell? my nitrates and nitrates are normal they only other fish are two 2inch Jd's with a school of fry so the bio load is very minimal but the tank is divided and half will be used as a grow out for the bichirs

Thanks!!

If the tank has been cycled & testing shows nitrite & nitrate to be zero; the JD's & fry are eating & otherwise acting normally, probably no ammonia worries.

Not way to tell but if ur water is cloudy and ur fish are acting strange then I’d check ur water quality.

Water is slightly cloudy which is another thing that I wanted to ask how to fix but they tank has been up and running for well over a year and have never had a fish die originally it was used to hold my koi when it was winter then I sold them and started leaning towards cichlids and tropical fish I can post pics of the setup if that helps? also I cant go get the water tested my closest fish store is big als 40 min away so I might just go to pet smart and pick up test kits

You can go to a LFS and they’ll test your water for free!

I don't think you'll need to worry. Slowly adjust the fish load going into the tank and the bacteria will catch up

i agree with everyone but as A201 A201 stated if Ammonia was present the JD fry will not survive.
