How to determine if a stand can support more weight than stated?

I prefer to use outdoor deck or drywall screws for my DIY stands. The corsest thread the better.

The absolute lowest cost is putting it on the floor.
I prefer using concrete blocks and a bit of plywood over them for stands.

I actually have a Titan-Eze stand with an acrylic tank. The other stands I purchased last year at reduced price. The width was the issue, not tank size...couldn't go wider than 13 which is a problem with smaller tanks 30- 50 gal (usually 15" or 18" wide). 12 inch width was too small. The 45 gal stands available were the MDF stuff with meh reviews.

Lower shelf is 12 inches, flush to frame

No cross bracing

Why not junk the stand and make your own? It’ll be stronger than that.

I concur with the comments above, I wouldn't even trust a 38 gallon on that stand with out beefing it up. Honestly you might be better just looking for a used DIY stand built out of 2x4's locally.

You may be right. Space restrictions kind of forced my hand with the stands to begin with (fish room is an odd geometric shape). I would have loved to have gone to 15 wide...I may do it, but it will be tight with the other tanks in the room.
