how to do DIY waterchanger????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it seems there has to be a simpler way to do it when you do not have chlorine in your water.
neoprodigy's -- 24/7 New Water Changer (chemical way)

neoprodigy's -- 24/7 New Water Drip System

CHOMPER's -- One Touch / Automatic Water Changer

here is what i have found but still not what i was thinking.

I was thinking of drilling a hole just above water level, for the drain, when water gets this high it starts coming out going to drain. Then just plumb in a water line to keep the drip coming.?? would this work?

i do not think i need to go to that extreme, i do not think i have a problem with chemicals, just want to not have to do wanterchanges.

Is there a more simple way? without a sump, how do you controll water flow and water discharge?

These people are really not interested in giving you actual advice it sounds like. I see nothing wrong with trying to find the easiest possible way to achieve something.

You can have a waterchange system without a sump, but you will need individual overflows for each tank. The option to drill your tanks would probably be the best. Then you can setup an automated or manual control timer setup to change the water.

How often are you wanting to do water changes? How much water are you wanting to change? How many tanks are we talking about? Have you looked into drip systems? Have you tested your water to be sure that there is nothing harmful in it just to be safe?

Please do not assume that we do not want to help. There is a lot of information and multiple ways of accomplishing what he wants to do. He will need to decide for himself which method he wants to use.

I have a nice setup because I also don't want to do water changes.

I drilled my tank, and have a 90 on the inside with a pipe going down 1/2 the tank, on the back of the tank I have a ball valve connected to the drain, that is plumbed to a floor drain. I then have the water line ran to the tank again connected to a ball valve.

To do a water change takes me less then 1 minute of my time and zero mess. I open the drain the tank drains half way and then stops. That takes 10 seconds to open the drain, I come back spend another 10 seconds closing the drain. I then open the water line and the tank refiles again another 10 seconds, I come back and close the water line still just 10 seconds. So a total of 40 seconds to do a water change, and not a single drip of water spills out. Plus the really nice thing here is that if I need to vacuum I then just hook up my hose to the drain and vacuum away, no sucking to start a siphon, no running a long hose to my since to start a siphon.

I have been very interested in hassle free water changes, every since I broke my jaw doing a water change on my 220. I was using buckets for some dumb reason to do changes on this tank. due to the height of the tank I had to stand on something to dump the water back in, well I slip and fell cracking my jaw. Many months of pain and soup made me start running a hose to add the water back, this is a hassle and almost always results in a little water being spilled.

So just because someone say they don't want to do water changes doesn't mean they dont need to be in the hobby. Thats just dumb to say, because I use timers on my lights should I just get a glow in the dark poster?
