I crush every fish food I have hikari, flakes, algae waffers.... The only difference is I have lots of fry so when I walk into a room they go nuts and come to the top for food.In your case just spot feed them little tiny bits at a time so you dont dirty the water.

Yeah I tried some crushed pellet today. I got other foods, I mgiht try it. The problem is there only is one fry so I cant get the focus I need when trying to feed. I do see the fish occasionally hanging by the top so maybe its starting to realize where food is coming from.

All the above and WARM water!

Try different frozen foods. If it's too small to eat blood worms and brine shrimp you can use frozen Daphnia, Cyclops, Baby Brine etc... The frozen foods really make them grow fast but being that you only have one you should defrost some and put it in the fridge. Don't underfeed because your worried about the water, just change water more often.

I was just about to ask, doesn't anyone else use cyclop eeze! thats the best stuff for the new fry, I have found...btw, why do fry need so many water changes they have such little waste...??

because of the build up in nitrates/nitrites/amonia that sort of thing, it can kill fry in seconds as they are so small :D

The more pure the water the faster fish grow. He might be small and have less waste but the tank is only 10 gallons which one might argue is equivalent to a bigger fish in a bigger tank. And we tend to do more frequent feedings with baby fish which mucks up the water quickly.

Yes...... Cyclopeeze is the best. Use the frozen, not the freeze-dried.

Another option, especially since it's a single fry, would be to put it in a net breeder in the 10g or even a larger tank. That way you can concentrate feeding to it. I feed CA fry Kens Fish flake, NLS, and pellets.

I grow out fry in net breeders in a 40g breeder bare bottom tank. It makes cleaning easy (which means more water changes) and it allows maximum food to get to the fish without them having to hunt all over a tank for it.

I'm not a fan of 10g for grow out. Too easy for the water to go bad in that small of a tank.
