Hello there! I just bought one Tiger oscar about 20 cm or 7 inches, 5 days ago..

I put him on the tank, and he just played dead all the time I came there, I even thought he was dead. (trolling oscar :screwy:)
Always I came close to the tank he did it again, but now when I keep there quiet, he swims around very shy, checking whats happening.

Im feeding his tankmates (three Cichla kelberi) with frozen Tilapia, and I bought one pellet (floating, 44 % BP) to the Oscar. Because of the fear he still feels, when I move to put the food, he swims to the bottom of the tank, giving no attention to the food, doesn't matter if its the frozen tilapia meat or the pellets.

I wanna know if you guys lived any situation like this with Oscars, and what you did to handle with this. Even he being so fat yet, Im already worried.

So, Almost two weeks, and he still playing dead, we can easily see he swimming around.

Not eating frozen tilapia meat or the floating pellet ( I also tried to soak it.)

Is it ok? Should I worry about it?

Im thinking of trying to put some little fish of mine for him, maybe it will make him become used of me.

Try garlic oil. I had to soak pellets in that for my Jardini to take to them. Also what you could try is crickets/mealworms/butterworms. I know my Oscar Loves these foods. My oscar is always the first one to the top of the tank inhaling whatever he could fit in his mouth.

has your oscar been raised in a tank, or was he wild caught?
he may be used to eating live bugs and/or small fish.
try offering earth worms first, and crickets- something that still wiggles.
you can try that for an appetite test. even my very spoiled oscar goes crazy at the sight of wiggling crickets. but they aren't very nutritious. worms are better.
if he doesn't start eating then he may have parasites and need treatment for them. however, at 7 inches, an oscar can wait a long time for food, by using up his body fat.

I really dont know, but I dont know any wild oscar with orange coloration, so I guess its not wild..

hmm.. I will try to put some crickets/worm/fish on his tank, and check it.
And if he dont show appetite, how to treat parasites?

Btw, he stills fat.
