I just bought some market shrimps(Headless) to feed to my FH, but it won't eat the shell. Does it need to eat the shell to bring out its red coloring, or will eating just the shrimp flesh will be enough?

Any tricks you guys use to feed your Flowerhorns shrimp?

Some flowerhorns will not eat the shell, and yes the shell does help improve the red coloring. But other than that, you don't have to use the shell. The shrimp itself would be okay.

So the flesh will still improve red coloration?

Market shrimp is great for your fish shell or not, if it doesn't like the shell take it off. To answer your question the shell will improve the red color the meat not so much, so I suggest buying frozen krill and feed it whole.

A little only, doesn't give as good as a result with the shell. But if it doesn't like the shell then you shouldn't feed it. Some flowerhorns have hard time swallowing the shell.

Doesn't krill have the shell too? If my FH doesn't like the shell, will he still eat krill?

Yes, some frozen krills comes in whole with shell and everything. Just take off the shell and head before you feed it to your flowerhorn.

The shell on the krill is softer and more paletable, you will have a much better chance of your fish accepting the shell on the krill than the shell of the shrimp which is much harder. Try it, krill is a great color enhancer.

Petsmart has it in the freezer in the fish dept just ask for it if you don't see it.
