Basically, you add hardener to the resin, paint it on the plywood, and then apply the cloth. It will stick to the resin. Smooth it out with more resin, either with a brush or a special squeegee.

The trick is, all this has to be done before the resin starts to gel, or you will have an ugly mess. The amount of time you have depends on the rein/hardener you use and the temperature, but no matter what, you've got to have everything ready to go and you have to work fast.

You should google the subject or search MFK, I'm positive there's a better how-to-fiberglass article out there! :)

Good luck!

i can overlap the fiberglass right? even if the part im overlaping has dried?

Sand the hard part first so the new resin will adhere well.

And, yeah, this should be in the DIY section to get more replies.

mix a smaller amount of hardner in with some resin on your first batch so that you can get a feel fro how much time you have. once it starts to gel just stop and throw it away. dont cheap out and try and force that stuff onto the fiberglass. ive been doing fiberglass boxes for cars/trucks for years and now im getting into the fish world. lol

You don't have to sand if you apply the second coat while its tacky. I have been using fiberglass making tubs and showers for 18 years. You can even apply as many layers as you want at a time, as long as it's flat. If it's on a wall you may have a problem with the glass sliding down if you apply to many layers at once.

Cool cool. But no precautions when applying this to plywood or any steps i need to take in advance??. the obvious i know is sand and clean well

lol, and im guessing dont use to much at a time, because you'll be wasting it.
Anybody have a ruff estimate of how long the resin will be good for?
minutes or halfhours?

Minutes. In room temperature your lucky to get 5-10minutes out of it. Like others said have everything ready and work fast. I personally mix a few cups and go to town. I mix them in a plastic cup so when the resin hardens I just crack it and peel it out and mix again, foam will just melt while your applying and end up over everything. Wear gloves and do this outside. Have some acetone nearby.
