How to fiberglass Plywood Tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
when I wet out the piece tobe glassed,I use a hot batch of resin thats thinned out with acetone, this allows for better penatration into the wood, you want to roll out the tank first ,then put on the cloth, and wet that out ,soak it with resin you dont want any dry cloth.the cloth will go from white to clear youll see.pre cut all of the mat that your going to use first.that metal roller there dip it in acetone once in a while when you roll the resin into the cloth.I think one layer of a nitted biaxial cloth with chopped strand mat on one side is all you need.wear kitchen gloves and work clean.have a buddy mix for you and pass the beer.I choose epoxy resin because I have easy access to it,polyester resins are just as good and way cheaper.hope this helps

Sorry man but what do you mean by roll out the tank first? i think i got a idea but not sure.

im loving your input happy snapper. Dont drink though

Why no drinking? Your getting high off of the fumes so mine as well! ;)

Seriously though dont breath that **** in, it is far from fun.

dont worry im not. Im going to where one of those funny looking respirator/masks things, lol. My buddy has a bunch of em. Im probably going to replace the filters to while im at it..

It will be okay to get all the seams done before the walls right? Then kind of overlap them with the mat i lay on the walls, then do the seams again.

For the corners should i just get in real tight with a scweegy or something to that effect.

Yes you can, no need to worry about 'glass, its easy as hell. The only thing you have to worry about is making sure there are no air bubbles. Other than that its like walking in the park. Wet, paste, smooth. And while your making up another batch the resin is already hardening on the layer you just put down.

Id go outside and make a vid of me putting it on corners on pb to show you how easy it is, but its cold/windy/ and snow flurries, I dont care to be in the cold and wind!

I can try next saturday, its gonna be 55 instead of 35. Need to pick up a 50cent paint brush and acetone. Hopefully thats not to much of a wait for you.
