Need to get this guy on pellets for healthier food and for easier feeding for me. Every other fish eats pellets except him and when I put in feeders he is not as aggressive as the others and it takes a dozen or so feeders for him to finally get one. I have tried sinking pellets, floating pellets, frozen bloodworms, and none will work because the other fish are more aggressive and take all the pellets. Even when I overfeed and the other fish are done, he doesn't take the pellets. Any tricks? I would love to just throw pellets in there and be done every day.

how big is he? usually just stop feed them feeder fish and just feed pellet then he will eat the pellet when he is hungry enough!

About a foot long. I tried that, but I was worried he would die. He went almost a month without eating so I finally gave in. I tried that with my arowana too and it died. Need a softer way if there is any.

Ur gar can go almost 2 months no food, sounds like u put way too much food in ur tank, don't feed for 4-7 days or so then throw a handful in and u bet he will take it

For real? Holy cow. I had no idea. Yeah I love feeding these guys. lol

Took me about two days to get my gar eating silversides then a week for pellets, mine likes floating massivores

if the other fish eat pellets, just keep feeding him feeders until he gets the idea. once they start taking pellets you shouldn't have an issue. i still feed my gar live once a week or so. they get 50-100 goldfish between 3 gar and all take pellets between live feeds. takes them 24-48 hours to finish up the goldfish.

First of all DON'tT give him feeders.. I know you probably heard this before and don't care BUT: You don't know the pain of realizing your fish has gotten parasites.
Secondly: Pure style feeding- Meaning that you feed the fish nothing BUT pellets for a while, and then eventually it has no choice but to eat the pellets.

Weird thing is all the fish know when I feed them to come to that side of the tank, and he goes over too. Once I put the pellets in, he gets right in there like he will eat them, but never does. Then one of the bigger fish attacks a pellet and he swims off, and then wanders back, but never attempts to eat the pellets. Just wait it out? At what point do you give in and save the fish from starving itself?
