+2 Solomon is pretty much the man and Richard is his sidekick  Just kidding Richard. you guys are both an extraordinary asset to the Gar and Ancient fish Forum. These guys whole entire lives are center around researching about these wonder fish.

OP I was like you I thought these guys were lying but it takes patience and cleverness because gar are in a clever fish. Try soaking them in water first and drop in right by the gar check the links out HERE and Here. There is plenty more just search the forum and if all else fails just pm those who have been successful at it. Patience is the key your gar WILL come around. Any more question just PM me :)

those links helped me alot, thanks

Keep feeding it; starving it will not help it health wise especially if it's a YOY gar. What's it currently feeding on? You mentioned that it took beef heart, so try to get it on fish fillets and/or shrimp (much healthier than beef heart) before trying to get it on pellets. Once it's on prepared foods, try stuffing its food with pellets to get it to eat pellets by themselves; apparently this method has worked for others. I have never bothered to convert my gars to pellets, so, as Solomon said, do a search on the many previous detailed threads on this subject.

well right now hes on feeders. i think what im going to do is not feed him for one more day "which would be a total of 2 days" and see if hell give in. if not ill feed him some fish and try a new method.

Two days isn't that long, so he should be fine with not eating for that long. Like I said before, it might be easier to get it on fish fillets and/or shrimp before moving to pellets.

i didn't mean to offend the ''gar expert''.
jackwagons.

Why do you doubt that he's a gar expert? See the following sites plus his many posts around the various fish forums (MFK, etc.) if you have any further doubts: Lepisosteidae.net and Primitivefishes.com.

definitely didn't offend me, i looked at your posting history (out of curiosity) and it generally reflects the asinine and useless nature of your posts in this thread as well. luckily, most people who browse this subforum won't pay much attention to your waste of bandwith/posts--

PS - to the OP - other members have linked to good threads on feed conversion, and i would say you're def fine on just 2 days without food. best of luck!--

way to be solomon :D

any way to the op, i got my fl gar off live prety easy actually. it took bout 4 days i just kept throwing krill at him and eventually he bit one but spat it, then i just was persistent and he eventually ate one. then i tried with hikari food sticks and he destroyed them. the key is repetition and if i managed this with a gar that was proly no more than 5 inches, your 11 incher should be a breeze good luck!!!
