At companies that have you fill out an online application (petsmart, petco, sears, Panda restaurants, etc.) for the job with your resume and past job history.

When it comes to hiring is it someone at the local company or is it someone from corporate.

Reason for the questions is I am looking for a more reliable job.

the local stores.....the applications you fill out on-line just narrows the field. a company that i use to work for, 4 out of every 10 applications would not pass the original application and screening test. infact, if you don't pass that test, your application dont even show up to stores.

It really depends on the specific company. Some companies use recruiters others hire with the managers. A lot more companies are going digital now and no longer have paper applications. If you really want a new job then fill out the application and call the store manger and human resources manager. Most companies get hundreds of applicants you have to take the intuitive. Good luck

I was in retail recruiting for a while for a large company and usually you will be contacted by either the store manager or a corporate recruiter... which would depend on the job you were applying for. Ballin is absolutley right those questionaires eliminate people right off the bat and help to narrow the field especially for entry level positions where so many people submit applications. The quickest way to get hired for those entry level positions is to know someone who works there and put employee referral on your resume... But you still would have to pass the initial pre screen questions.

roflmao, look at the examples he gave ....they're not using recruiters unless they're hiring for management. that'd probably the the only exception when hr or "corporate" got involved in applications.

Not always the case I worked in recruiting for a large clothing brand and we recruited entry level sales reps. My last job in recruiting at the same company I work for now is a large electronics/telecomm company and we have a recruiting department who recruits the entry level positions... depends on the company, I cant speak to petsmart or petco though probably done by the managers.

i'll take your word for it. just seems odd to have recruiters for minimum wage or slightly over minimum wage jobs if you have a store front. You would think as a manager of a store you would want to know who's coming into your store to work for you. i use to have to work with alot of traveling vendors like levis or some sunglass brands and i could see them using recruiters but they don't have a store front

Very true regarding companies like Levis and the sunglass companies. I should note also that the "entry level" positions we were recruting for were Full-time hourly with benefits, companies that use part time employees Im sure do it through the store like you suggested

Thanks everyone.

When calling the manager or human resources manager to put in a good word for myself is there a good day or time to call or just call any time they're open and the manager is in.
Its my first time dealing with corporate companies.

Also do they let you know if you passed the questionnaire and are in the final group to be chosen for the job?
