How to get rid, or at least decrease the population greatly of pond snails

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use these situations as an excuse to set up a 10g figure 8 puffer tank...

Another idea - I have pond snails in my planted 18g, and I was able to obtain a small colony of Anetome helena from a local university professor. They haven't taken out all the pond snails yet, but I'm seeing quite a few empty shells already. Keeps it down to a dull roar. Upping my water change schedule has helped as well.

most loach will eat snail but theres chemicals you can buy at any pet store that will take care of the snails without harming your fish, i know cause ive had the problem before.

Also it would cost fare more to buy a bunch of loachs just to get rid of some snail, and copper is also a bad idea

:iagree:
If you want natural then go with loaches if you want to do it the easy way just get some of that chemical that kills them.

Ohhh no, no chemicals for me, I kind of plan on keeping at least some inverts in there.. at some point.

I'm believing what flaringshutter said about copper leaching into driftwood, ect, so I think I'll just keep them in there, they arent really an eyesore, I just remove them when I see them. Ill probably try the cucumber idea.

I kind of like having a little almost invisible cleanup crew.
