I would like to know what other people here feed their Blood Parrots (BPs) to keep their bright colours. I brought Hang Seng Fast Colour pellets but my BPs really wont eat them. I have even tried starving them and they wont eat it. Anyone know what pellets I can buy that BPs cannot resist?

I note alot of people feed them shrimp, but that would be too expensive for me as I have 18 hungry mouths to feed.

Also I'm guessing the amount of lighting is available during the day plays an important role in keeping the colours?

how big is ur bp? i need my fh granules they love it.

The thing that makes my BP the most orange is putting a male in with her. But that's just asking for trouble (fry).

funny you should say this, because i've noticed that my females become very vividly more red with a approaching spawn. also their lady humps come out more.

the brand is called tetracolors. it can be purchased at any LFS. the small ones are pretty cheap. there are alot of color enhancers you can feed. but thats all depending on your taste. i feed my fh granules, bloodworms, chingmix. (for color and Kok)

Thanks I need a pretty tasty pellets brand as my BPs are picky with their food for some reason. They go crazy at bloodworms but that doesnt enhance their colour. I will have a look for that tetracolors ones.

I also have a 3 juvie BPs which are really black. Will they change colour? I got many other BPs the same size which have fully changed colour.

for the juvies i guess wait about few months and the color will eventually show. but feed them something that they can eat and fit in their mouth. some fishes tend to avoid foods that are bigger then their mouth. also ciclids love bloodworms, doesnt really bring out the color but makes them grow if they eat frozen or lives.

just for reference you should check out colored parrots they look really cool.
