How to heal my polys slime coat.

I don't know why you are being told epsom salt is the right salt to use for healing properties. NO, epsom salts is normally used when a fish has digestive issues such as bloat, ate too much, etc.... epsom salts is a natural laxative. Epsom salt is diff than aquarium salt. I buy aquarium salt from the pet store. I know it is more expensive but I rarely use it anyways so the extra $$ is not an issue. I know many buy solar salt from lowe's/home depot without a problem and is very economical.

Yes good call on that, for some reason I thought marine and Epson were the same but its just mag sulfate and marine salt has so many compounds, kind of interesting, I actually use marine salt or evaporated sea water for replenishing minerals and healing. Thanks for the clarification!

Thank you for clarifying, good thing I hadn't added it yet idk if im going to add any though, he seems to be doing just fine with out it ill get some as a precaution. Thanks again!

You mention using marine salt for replenishing minerals -- I take it you are referring to salt mix used in marine/brackish set-ups? If so, I would HIGHLY recommend NOT to use the marine salt mix. Marine salt mix has (among having several types of salts) many trace/micro/macro nutrients which act as buffers and WILL affect the PH among other values in the water column -- these mixes are for marine set-ups. If you want to replenish nutrients in your freshwater tank use seachem fresh trace which focuses on freshwater set-ups.

Yeah, some injuries when left alone (assuming good clean water) will heal on its own. Best of luck.
 
I use the 50# bag of solar salt from lowes or Homedepot for my freshwater setups. Cost about $6 a bag. same stuff you buy in the pet store minus the pretty fish on the bag.
