How to heat 1 gallon Betta tank?

Room temp. will be fine. I'd get a thermometer and unless it drops below 72F then more than likely you will be fine. If it drops lower then find a a room where it is warmer. Unless you don't use heat in your place in the winter there has to be a place where it'll at least stay 72F. Or upgrade.

Anyone know what kind of heater I can use to heat a 1 gallon betta tank? Would those hydor heaters rated for 2-5 gallons be too much?

No, I used one on the 1/2 gallon bowl that I used to keep my betta in for at least a year with no problems (but then I reallized that keeping it in such a tiny tank with no filter was cruel, so I upgraded to a 2g).

Yeah get an All-Glass 2.5 or 5gal cheap at Petsmart or LFS....I have a betta in a 2.5gal with a mini-hydor and a Whisper i3 he loves it

If you have a betta in a one gallon tank, I think too little water/space will get to it before temp being a few degrees off.

If I remember correctly, bettas like upper mid 70's to lower 70's most. If you want your betta to live 10 years, you will need a heater. But you will also need a filter and more space. I would suggest a 2.5 gallon tank minimum for optimal betta care. Mine is in a 2.5 gallon bowfront with a sponge filter. Very simple and I can adjust flow to suit the bettas needs.

If you want a heater, get at least a 2.5. For the cost of everything being extra small, you will be paying as much as you would for a similar 5.5 gallon setup.

Cool guys. Maybe in a few months I can upgrade the tank. To be honest I wish I did have something bigger. But I guess its better than a bowl with no filtration like he came from. Yeah I was looking at that mini hydor. Thats probably what I will use once I got a 2.5-5 gallon.

imho i think you should up grade to a ten gallon they are cheap and often given away on craiglist.

You should check craigslist though. You can get a full set up 10 gallon (gravel, decor, filter, heater) for as low as 10 bucks. Check your couch for change every week for a month and you'll have 10 bucks in no time
