How to help stumpy the stingray

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
interesting idea but shes too big for a drinking straw now.

her tail is more of a "club" shape and is quite spikey at the end.
my kids particularly like her as they are able to pet her like the ones in the sealife centers ... althought i dont encourage this but its what they said. ( there are other rays in there so they arnt actually allowed to pet her but thats what they said lol )

if i didnt have my tanks full i would keep her but she will have to go eventually, which is a shame as she has grown on us.

will have to check with blue plannet and see if i can get a membership in exchange for stumpy the supersafe stingray lol :D

I would love to take stumpy. But i stay at Singapore. Are u fine with shipping?

what the tail is to thick for a mCdonalds drinking straw dam you left it a long time

to be honest it never occurred to me to put a straw on the end or even to try and shape the tail at all.
the tail isnt going to grow back and putting a straw on it wont help that but it could cause problems with the recovery of her tail, hide potential infections or keep falling off causing stress to the ray when the straw is initially put on and each time the straw is put back on if it falls off.
i cant see any problem with her tail how it is as opposed to being a little more pointy.
ive read many times that rays store fat in the base of the tail too so putting a straw over it could restrict this as well.

so in answer to your question T1, no i doubt i could fit a mcdonalds straw over it ( although if i really wanted to i could find different sizes of rubber hose or tubing ) and no i dont think i would anyhow as i cant see any benefit. i think her tail is fine how it is. she eats great and swims around as happily as any of the others and she is more individual, although i do see your point :)

what a great comment ! thank you very much from both me and stumpy :)

Nice! Great to see a day survive an injured and infected rim like that. In my opinion it now adds character and I would love to own a fish with an injury like that.

I dont know if in your country you have acess to a product called Kordon Rid Fungus? i generally would never suggest treating a stingray but this product is much safer than most other products out there its organic but yet still effective. Melafix would also be a decent choice to attemp. i would not cut it off. it will naturally fall off but i would on the other hand try and control the infection and fungus from taking over. hope for the best for the little guy
