How to I get a License to own an illegal fish?

"They're not going to give you a permit, to put it frankly. Unless your and educational instution or such, they will not give you a permit. "

i live in socal and when i found out FW rays were illegal to own i was heartbroken. lucky for me my godfather is an Orange County Superior Court judge and right now he and i are working the paperwork for the permits to legally house FW rays/Asian Aro's/etc. its probably going to take another 9-12 months, but when we're done i'll be able to do it legally.

it definately sucks, but better than getting hit with MAJOR fines.

If you can get asian aro's it won't even be funny how many you can sell in the us.

if you live in socal and get to know a few LFS owners well enough its not hard to find them.

but for me personally i'd rather stay within the limits of the law since i have 2 kids and a wife that depend on me. no fish is worth losing everything i've worked for. if/when the permits come through, i won't be selling ANYTHING.

I found a web-site a while ago (can't remember, will look) of a fella in Canada that breeds them. They come with paper work and are perfectly legal in all states. The only reason they are illegal is political. They come from communist countries with which the U.S. has trade embargo's with.
They do cost like $5,000 (for adults) though.

I'm sorry, but that's simply not true. Asian arowanas are listed under the Endangered Species Act and have been since 1976. That's why they are illegal in the U.S. even if you have all the proper CITES documentation.
