I'm Over Here Now
i picked up an 18" aro a little over 3 weeks ago. he went 2 weeks without eating, then ate 2 nightcrawlers i fed to my ray as a treat. since then he still has not eaten. the old owner said he was on crickets and superworms. i don't want this to be his main diet, so i tried pellets (both sinking and floating) fd krill, fd mysis shrimp, market shrimp, tailipa, and fd brine shrimp cubes. i offer each food listed every day, wait 15 mins then wind up removing all of it from not being eaten. i even have offered the crickets and superworms within the past few days just to get something in him, and still nothing. any help would be great.

water temp is 83*
water perams spot on
tank mates 1- 11" ct dat, 1-11" orino, 1-10" tig,(the ray has since been removed) no aggression issues at all. does not seem stressed
maint. schedule 50% wc every 2-3 days, clean all mechanical filters every day to every other day

+1 always who will break first you feeling bad starving or him being hungry

Crickets and Superworms are to Arowanas as French Fries are to humans...LOL

Hard to get them off that stuff if they been on it for a while!

As long as he not sick and there are no water issues.....keep at it with earth worms.....then shrimp...then pellets......

Just need bit of time....

he won't even look at any of the food offered, and i offer everything listed once a day. i figured 3 weeks is a pretty long time. i'm hoping for the best

I like silver sides... Toss em in there with a good splash... Mine took em straight away and he was on gf from the pet store before that...

should i stop offering all these foods and focus on one in paticular? it;s just been a waste of alot of food over the past 3 weeks? and if so which is best? i have the large size NLS xl fish formula, and jumbo hikari sticks, and massivore which my other fish eat.

I feed mine silversides, massivore delight, jumbo carnisticks, and freeze dried krill. He devours everything. Try different things and when he gets hungry, he should eat.
Also why are you keeping the water at 83 degrees? The typical temperature range for arowanas is 75F to 82F with 79F being ideal. What temperature was he kept in before you got him? Try lowering the temp a few degrees.

i usually keep it at 78 but had an ich outbreak (before the aro was added) and increased it and added salt. just never lowered it. plus i was under the impression that temps on the higher side helps increase appitite.

Don't try feeding him that stuff every day. Do it like once or twice a week. Even if you have to decrease feeding other fish in the tank a bit that'll be fine.
