My 190 gallon tank has finished cycling, but I won't get fish for a week or two.

How much ammonia should I keep feeding the beneficial bacteria?

The tank breaks down 20ml ammonia within 24 hours, but can I reduce it?

I would like to keep the no3 at low levels so I don't need to do too many water changes, once every 3-4 days is ideal due to busy schedule the coming week.

Is it enough with just 5 ml?

Any input is welcomed...

You might be better off continuing to put an amount that would be similar to the bio load of what you plan on putting in there versus just enough to keep the most minimal BB alive. Otherwise you'll likely get a huge spike and it'll end up mini cycling anyways.

If anything, I would err on the high side.. better to have some BB die off after the system stabilizes with the new fish.

Throw a raw frozen shrimp in. It will slowly decompose into similar stuff as fish waste

Thanks.

It's going to be a community tank with mostly South American fish, angels and tetras.

I'll just keep going at it as now, and do water changes before going to work.

Don't want to screw it up when I'm so close;)

Of course;)

I'll test ph, ammonia, no2, no3, gh and kh before anything hits the water,

But not going to put raw shrimp in the tank. Why bother when I have liquid ammonia??

Yeah, sorry.. i figured you would. I just felt obligated to say it...

Good luck!

No worries.

I'm really looking forward for my fishes to use my tank as their home.

Three months of planning and preparation are about to come to fruition, but I always ask for advice and help all the way through to be on the safe side, and this forum and the web in General has been very helpful.

this is what i would do but being a 190 i would throw 2 in will give a slow ammonia release, no the tank will not get nastie, i have cycled couple of tanks this way. make sure they are just a shelled jumbo tail, fish time remove them and away you go.
