How to keep a tank cycled?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
some will starve, some will go into a semi dormant state, wither they can last 2 weeks with out some kind of nutrient happening I can not answer.

you can turn the heat off, and slow there life cycle down. if you choose to let them sit.

The bacteria will be fine for a week or two. If it will make you feel better, add a fish or two.

Do you have another tank?

If so, just put the filter from the old tank on the new tank and let it run for a couple of weeks. Or add some media from the old filter to the new one.

Matt

Could you please elaborate?

Wouldn't the beneficial bacteria starve and I would then have a ammonia and nitrite spike when fishes are introduced?

Or is two weeks not a long time for the bacteria?

Do you have multiple tanks? I usually just relocate a couple fish from a currently stocked tank temporarily.

tank cycled. do the ammonia till fish in, do the shrimp till fish in or do nothing, this the only question. no need to move filters.

Of course;)

I'll test ph, ammonia, no2, no3, gh and kh before anything hits the water,

But not going to put raw shrimp in the tank. Why bother when I have liquid ammonia??

Throwing in a raw shrimp will decompose and slowly release ammonia. It isnt pretty but will cycle a tank without measuring ammonia daily. Its a simple way to keep a new tank cycled but you could just keep adding ammonia daily if you would rather

gave it some more thought, you can not have to much bio filtration. whats not needed will die off according to what the fish bio load you put in, but better to much than not enough, feed them little boogers till fish in.

100 feeders?

Will i kill of my beneficial bacteria if there is a large drop in temperature?

I'll be doing two 60% water changes maybe more, and can I use cold water to fill the tank up?

The water temp would drop to 8-10 degrees Celsius. Now it's close to 30 degrees Celsius.

I'll get american numbers up soon.

Your system of measuring units are the absolute worst.
It makes no sense.
