I have a 135 gallon tank in my garage and noticed today that it was getting up to 85 and it's not even summer yet.

Would adding a ice block to the sump be a good temporary solution?

Anyone with a garage tank have any tricks to keep it cool?

Never attempted it yet but interested. I'm not familiar with your typical summer temps but I've been in houses with attic fans that keep the house in the mid-seventies when outside temps are in the upper 80s. Is the garage insulated? Do you have a service door? I know a few people that that have window ac units in their doors, between that and insulation the garage can be quite comfortable on the hottest days.

try getting your return to have a fountain effect and that should help keep it cool. people do the same with pools to keep them from eing to warm

^lower water levels to produce more surface agitation keep lights off except when needed if door connects to house and you have central air leave door open so the cool air gets to the garage from house, could try a chiller for saltwater but probably pricey good luck...

Or put a window Air Conditioner in the garage......Another electric bill...ugh....

I have a 55 in the garage, but it is well insulated. When its 95 outside it's 85 in the garage.... Will be interesting for me also this summer for temps.. :)

This is something I've been trying to deal with also. I don't see a problem with putting ice into the pump return section of the sump but I've heard that it can shock any beneficial bacteria if it's over the bio media.

My uncle had a tank in his garage. He had an old fridge with the door push thing for ice. He somehow hooked it up so that every hour I believe it dropped in like a cup full of ice. Kept the tank at 75 degrees. I'll have to see if I can get the plans that he used to make it. It was pretty cool looking too. Also hidden so you cant see it. Why don't you get a cheap or small chiller? I think homedepot sells pond chillers and they are $200 or so. Check that out.
