How to keep humidity in my tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, mainly it becomes a problem when it's time to shed. When you notice they are going to shed (the eyes become milky) you can put in a moist hide... some damp moss or paper towels in a hide and that will do the job. If it's a tank your keeping it in... you obviously have too much ventilation.

:iagree: a nice hide box with wet paper towel or moss does the trick

you could also put tape on half of your tank or put a bigger water bowl and spray once a day

what you dont want to do is put a heater under your water bowl cause where will your snake go to cool down when its to hot

Is the water bowl big enough for the snake to emerge himself in? If it is and he still has shedding issues, try putting the water bowl in a covered position, royals being nocurnal and so on.

when some of my kingsnakes had shedding problems I used to put them in bowls ( closed of course ) with warm water for one or 2 hours ( allow the snake some breathing space...). Always did the trick..even if sometimes you had to help some of the skin of it peeled right away, very easily.

Yup. This is good for digestion too.
It gets a bit more difficult with larger snakes though. Also, keep in mind that a warm water bath won't really help with the spectacle covers.
My Ball was a rescue (Left outside of a local pet shop on a February morning. That's a rescue, yes?) and he's had to visit the vet to remove spectacles.
Lastly, as simple as a warm water bath sounds, I've seen people submerge snakes in water that was much too hot, much too cold, etc. The water cools rapidly so if you keep him in there too long you risk illness and a few other problems.
The best way to avoid this is to control the humidity in his habitat. If your Kingsnakes have shedding problems you should consider raising the humidity in their enclosure, IMO.
