I have two baby senegal birchirs and I just want to make sure they are eating cause I have never actuaaly seen them and I was also wondering what to feed them the people at the lfs said shrimp pellets but they look to big for the fish because the birchirs are only about 1-2" so please help, I dont want to lose these guys.

the primer 3.0 in the sticky section will properly answer your question. a short answer, bloodworms, chopped earthworms (use scissors), little pieces of raw fish fillets from your local grocery store - pretty much ne thing but salmon. mahi, whiting, tilapia, ect. when full their stomachs should poke out some. a fat bichir is a happy bichir.

Crumble up some Hikari sinking carnivore pellets and feed some frozen blood worms and frozen beefheart. All can be found at your LFS. This will also help to fatten them up. It's amazing how much they will grow in one short month!! :D

growth rate depends on the individual fish's genes, but basically its about an inch a month until 8" and then they widen out and only get a couple or so more inches in length. a 1' senegal is rare. a realistic answer is 10" maybe 11".

9-10 inches seems more realistic for sens. there is a threads asking for pics of a 12 inch sen and I don't think anyone posted one.

mine went from a tiny baby (like you buy at petsmart) to about 7ish inches and thick. I bought another one at the exact same time, and its only 5ish inches and not as thick. this was in 11 months.

But, I don't power feed, in fact I only feed every 3rd day. so i would imagin you can get them much bigger in a year

Q.Alright so do you think that you keep a couple in a 75 gallon tank for life?
A.Yup easily i have four in a 75-Anne

i can tell mine eat because of there fat little belly.

mine are growing fast i think from the chopped fresh shrimp they get twice a week.just make sure you cut it up to the right size pieces or they will have a hard time getting it down.
