How to lower ammonia?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sure, probably, maybe, possibly ......... or not, and it does. Real life hands on experience for a few decades speaking here squint. How about you? I have seen filter bacteria killed, tanks crash, and fish deader than a door nail from exposure to chlorine, and chloramine. I have seen some of what appeared to be exactly that, right here on MFK over the years. Toxic? Naaah, never.

But hey, keep fighting the good fight.

Yep, but no comparison between a test tube and a water distribution line, and an aquarium that contains live critters.

I already have, on more than one occasion. Thankfully not the hard way, in one of my tanks.

I have. Do you want names & phone numbers?

Have a nice day squint, like usual it’s been mildly entertaining........

Well I can't get into the scientifics of it all like you guys, but my takeaway on all this is why take a chance, when a bit of extra effort lessens the risk factor considerably, esp. for those who live in places where chlorine/chloramine levels are higher. And not trying to come across as an elitist or anything, but this becomes even more poignant when talking about thousand dollar or so fish.

Btw, does anyone use something like this stainless steel filter to remove chlorine?

I can't clean my poret sponge in tank water nearly as well as I can by blasting it with the garden hose. I need a lot of pressure and volume to get it clean. I initially flung it against the ground per the vendor's recommendation but that tore up the sponges really quickly.

I do have separate bio media though but if I didn't...?
