How to lower nitate levels in a ten gallon aquarium (I need help)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you think about it the more often you do large water changes the less time the water has to drastically adjust; basically your parameters will be super constant. If you have space get two large buckets (think paint buckets) for your water changes (Assuming you aren't using something like a python).

Then do as follows:
  • Fill one bucket with water
  • Let it stand with an airstone or pump for 24-48 hours to gas off and "age" as fishkeepers call it. You could also heat it here.
  • Siphon tank water into the other bucket till it's almost full
  • Pump aged water into tank
  • Refill ageing bucket and let it sit till your next water change.
Should get good volumes changed on a 10 gallon tank :)

Man these are awesome ideas I didnt think of resuing old water like that, I appreciate you sharing that!
On another subject: I made a new thread in the planted tank section asking about moneywart plants. If you got a moment to check it out and got any tips that would be great! Thanks again for the extra tips on conserving water.
