I bought my Oscar when it was full size. It has been a year since that. My Oscar did have columnaris about 8 months ago. He did make a full recovery. I change the water 1-3 times a week. Each week I will take 30-60% of the aquariums water out and replace it. I have 1 empoer 400 running. The tank is probily 5 out of ten in water conditions(The water is avrage quality). It is a 75 gallon 4 ft aquarium. He is genarely boring and scared compared to my old Oscars and is scared of evrything I do. He does eat though. Can you please tell me what to do to train him? Thanks!!!!:help2:

does he have anywhere to hide? and also you could try training him so he is used to you, when feeding him hold the food to see if he takes it, if he doesnt seem interested then drop one pellet in or whatever youre feeding him and then hold another in, if you keep doing this then he might take the food from you, but dont stop this process, you should do tgis everytime you feed your oscar.

feed him live earthworms!!! always got my old guy excited... but yeah dither fish such as tiger barbs or giant danios could bring him out

ive tried not feeding mine and i nearly lost one as it jumped out of the tank. ive read that oscars dont get lonely, it might want a female if the one you have is a male or visa versa, even in the fish world sex is alway the first and only thought in a males head other than food obvs. try puuting in another oscar, although you might want to get a slightly bigger tank, i suggest a 6 footer but a 5 should be okay. these are just my suggestions, im not 100 percent on them theyre just things that ive read about oscars. also if you dont mind me asking what decor do you have inside your tank?

My experiance, most oscars when the get big loose there color and are dead wieght. But I have seen a few that are nice looking at adult size.

or....put a small convict in with him, give the con a hiding spot only it can fit in.or use dithers also as suggested

Oscar bites are nasty....use caution.

Oscars are not the most outgoing fish. Some are some aren't. I have one that just kind of hangs around unless he is hungry.
