I was just wondering how everyone (or a lot of people here) get their water to look crystal clear?! Its driving my crazy that my water always has a very small greenish foggy tint to it. Is it the lighting that you use to make it look clear? I have heard something about moon lighting to make water look this way? You can see my avatar as to what my tank looks like. And here is a picture of a tank (not mine) that I am trying to get at! Thanks guys!

I think a lot of people use vortex xl diatom filters. I never heard of these until I read a couple posts on here yesturday. You can find a couple posts in the section about them.

Diatom FTW check out my thread on vortex xl results on 90 gallon.

For a more long term solution you have to look into feeding habits and filter media as well as proper water changes and tank turnover.

do you have an algea eater? i don't and no matter how many water changers i did, the water always had a greenish tint. i finally bought a small bottle of algeafix and once a week a put some drops in the water. now it's crystal clear.

yup, diatom is the clearest water you can get. period.

a very fine (50-100) micron filter sock in your sump will give you incredible results too. this is what i currently use on the 400g. i just swap them out every 3 days or so

he want the crispy look!! lol..

check out that crispy thread, you might find some additional info on some crispy looking tank....

the solution is 100% dependent on the source of the problem. There is no 'end all' answer.

If its algae, it could be overfeeding, too much light, phosphates, etc.

If its bacteria bloom, its a filtration problem

If its floating particles, its a circulation or filtration problem.

Once you determine the problem, it should be relatively easy to solve the problem. Or take the buckshot approach and solve them all.

48hour blackout period (no light/ no food)
50% WC after the 2 days
Double your filtration and add some fine media for water polishing. (poly-fill, micron filters, etc)
Check your WP. if there are any discrepancies, do WC as needed.
