I've seen a lot of aquarists with mounted fish skeletons. I want to mount the skeleton of a bighead carp, or maybe a gar. I was just wondering how I would go about preparing a skeleton. I was thinking of burying a carcass a couple of inches in the garden until all the flesh rots off, and the maybe bleaching it, and wiring it up to a piece of wood. Anyone have any ideas of the best method?

The process is a lot more involved than that, we had a member on here that was doing big catfish/arowana skeletons but I can’t remember who. Maybe one of the mods remembers who it was. I think the guy was a mod way back when. pacu mom pacu mom C Chicxulub Oddball Oddball Any of you guys remember the fish skeleton guy?

Yes it was Necro. Your best bet is cleaning the animal as far as possible and letting Dermestes sp. Beetles do the rest. There are also some pretty good videos on YouTube highlighting the process.
