How to move monster tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just bought a used 150g made from 1/2" glass. When I went to pay for the tank they had it on the back deck and wanted it moved around the house not through. Down a long wooden staircase, around the house on a muddy sloped yard. I called movers. It cost me $140.00, they insured the move, and I saved my back.

I recomment friends and plywood underneath as you move it. I always feel like its going to be a little more rigid along its length when I do that. Also minimizes how much people are pulling on the edges of the tank - if it has braces. This is why my next tank - hopefully a 300gal is coming from the place that says "Free Delivery" even though they cost more and I dislike the proprietors. The tank weighs more than my spite.

dont use suction cups. if they let goe (and they do occasionally) there goes ur tank and your toes. ive seen it haapen with 12mm glass and it aint pretty when u see some one loose 1/3 rd of there foot. use glass gloves whicjh are a rubber glove. they give extra friction and when ppl are shakeing and sweating theyll come in use. 9x2x2 should be a 12mm tank easily moves by 4 people trust me if 3 ppl can move a 11'x28"x28" out of 12mm then then 9x2x2 is no dramas. make sure wadever truck or tansport ur using se a rubbe mat floor to hold tank and pad any un eveness on what the tanks on and cover wid casrpet i heard about a guy who got a nasty big chip in his tank when he was behind a truck and a peice of gravel took a chunck of glass out of his panel.

I just got a 100g glass used for $40.00 and had to move it about 100 yards from his storage space to mine. Me and a friend moved it with a pick up truck and it was a serious pain. Get more help than you think you need - and their children.

what!!! ur getting a freebie 300g tank??? what a !@#@^%$ lol!!
thats not fair lol! ill help u carry my 220 to ur house in exchange of that 300!! ^_^ how about that lol.

Ill suggest hire a mover... theyre expensive around here BUT yes it is worth it!! say if one of ur friends got injured, lets say he broke his arm (hope not_)... u would have to be liable of that. With movers.. u wont be becoz theyre insured and its part of the agreement of their job. :)
we(at the store) deliver for free but even us including me wishes that we dont do that anymore.
were not secured by the way.
