How to Obtain a American Eel?

Chinatown supermarkets are your best bet. Sometimes they sell elvers as well.

Be warned, it can some serious searching to find one in good condition sometimes though. Alot of times I go in the markets I see them in some dreadful physical condition. I've seen stores that have them displayed, but had their mouths crushed or broken off I assume to prevent getting bit while handling them.

Also be sure to check what kind of water they're being kept in. I initially had mine in complete fresh, but didn't adjust well right away. I added a little marine salt and it has been fine ever since.

it a shame its not summer cant avoid catching these so bad in places some ignorant fisherman will kill on site and get mad if you let them go. but i always give them to asians they swear it tastes good i tried tasted like mud

find a local chinatown store that sells fish as food, you might be able to find eels there, the chinatown near me sells them but i'm in ohio, idk about cali...

yeah i seen a lot of fisherman do that when i was visting the eastern shore of va, they just stab them i the head and toss them back in the water

its sad but i have stopped fishing in some spots with slow water because they take over

its not that they take over they are naturally in slow moving pools at night or cloe to dusk searching for food...and it all depends how you are fishing if your fishing with live bait off the bottom 90% of the time its going to be a catfish or eel....
