How to prepare tanks for short vacation?

Do nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Why would people risk a water change a day before or, worse, on the day you leave? Let's just think there is something on the water, or your conditioner has gone bad, or a fish spooked and jumped and got damaged. I would not want to risk that immediately before I leave. The fish and my peace of mind are much better off waiting another week or two.

Furthermore, healthy fish can starve for a couple of weeks. Wolffish are notorious for sometimes refusing food for a month or two! Unless you fear that one fish eats the other (eg juvenile piranhas) Then have neighbors feed them.

No worries
All will be fine

+1.

Excepting for fry, I think it's best to leave everything alone before you leave. If you need a WC, do one a week in advance. If you are worried about ammonia, stop feeding 2 days before you leave. Fish in the wild are built to withstand no food for weeks at a time, so a few days is nothing to them.

I've seen posts where fish died because:

1) auto feeder overfed the fish
2) friend / family overfed the fish
3) did a WC and forgot to turn the pumps back on then left
4) did a WC and forgot to turn the heaters back on then left
