theres a guy in the dead fish thread ( http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=18577&highlight=dead+fish+thread ) that does this... its somewhere in there i dont remember where... but theres a good chance that if you open that thread you will end up reading all 50 or so pages of it...

I know a guy who skulls bucks buy burying the head in a sandbox, then cover it with chicken wire so nothing can dig it up and just waiting till the creepy crawlies find it and do what they do best. Should work for a fish too. just dig up and find someone good with superglue and jigsaw puzzles.

use 70% alcohol for preservation (or at least maintenance of perservation) of our specimens...this is diluted from the 95% stuff we keep on hand in the lab. the actual preservation/fixation, however, is done with formaldehyde. if the fish is larger than just a few inches then i cut the belly so the chemical can enter into the insides of the fish and preserve everything. the fish stays in the form. solution for a couple days. if its a gar or bichir, a fish that has rigid bony scales, then i take the fish out after 2-3 days and just let it air dry. the fish is now dry preserved.
