I was wondering what I can do to prevent heater burn I run fx5s so I don't have the option to put my heater in the sump so what can I do to cover the heater or make it so the rays can't touch the heater I was thinking of putting some PVC pipe over it but I didn't know if it would melt the PVC or if it would effect the heater heating the tank any help is appreciated thank you

The brings me to my next question how to get the PVC to stay on the heater

I have PVC over mine drilled holes all around as :Jackson: stated. To make it stay i used a PVC pipe that was slightly larger in diameter than the heater so that the rubber guard on the bottom of the heater keeps it from falling off just make sure you measure so you can cut the PVC to fit perfect.

That's a real good idea the only thing is my heater has no rubber on the bottom maybe I can take the rubber off an extra heater and try and make it fit and then put PVC over the heater if not then ill have to just try and get the PVC to stand in the tank and let the heater sit inside

Yes or you can try and find like 2 suction cups with the plastic hooks and have the hook rest in one of the holes or suction cups with plastic clips and just clip the PVC to the cups and it'll hold it up

Use PVC caps and slot the top cap for the.cord

You can drill two three or however many holes you want = to the number of suction and buy the suction cups that have that little nob on the back that you push into the holding bracket like the fluval suction cups. biggest pic I could find

This is so you can stick the PVC where ever you want.

As suggested I'd cap the bottom and top but slot the top for the cord.
