How to prevent heater burn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Matt, not sure how you have your heater but i use PVC to cover my heater in my small tank. The heater is vertical so I just made my PVC extra long and it actually rests on the bottom of the tank. Just a thought and good luck with the hystrix.

Thanks man and my heater is just vertical in the corner so even though it may be ugly at least they won't rub on it and get burnt and that seems like the easiest way to be honest so ill just swing by the hardware store and buy a piece that will just go the length of the tank and let it sit inside so thank you for the quick response you guys have given me enough ideas where I can put some thing together and just to make sure if the heater was touching the PVC it wouldn't cause the PVC to melt right ?

heater gaurds are sooooooo cheap why would you bother making your own ebay is your best mate

I thing PVC pipe stops the heat from moving around the tank right

I think you need to drill more holes and use a bigger pipe as the thermostat will be shutting down long before the tank get up to temp

That pipe does look pretty small. How much larger is it than the diameter of the heater? The heat will mainly rise so cut off a section of the pipe at the top for the heat to escape. The pipe can go to the bottom to rest like you have it but shouldn't go all the way to the top(unless you have a lot more holes). Hope that helps.
