how to pump baby RTC + pacu? (pics for reference)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
this thread needs to be cleaned up sorry op and dont try to pump them so fast because they will get big really fast i say take your time so you can at least plan it better but good luck

Well op i wish you good luck with your rtc. I have a monster that will grow huge as well. Your very brave for taking on such a monster. I think people should be more open to the fact that there are people who care for fish as long as they can. I plan on housing my BB grouper and those tanks where the ones i bought for the BB grouper ONLY. I hope you have a great time with your rtc and maybe you will figure a way to keep him for life. Its not impossible, im sure you will do a good job.

To OP, Make sure to AVOID FEEDERS.
Don't make a plan to Dump your RTC at the Aquarium make a plan to build a big tank. And if that falls through then ask the Zoo/Aquarium if they want a 3' ft fish that you can't house, if they won't accept it....then we'll reply to your post a year from now....My 2cents

bah, the guy said he has done his research and he claims he knows what he is getting into. I am in the same boat, my two Pacu are 5" and thr RTCn is 7". in a 75 for now, 100 next week, then plans for a 450 in a few months. Some people, myself included, just have got to have the RTC ;) I am actually waiting for the RTC to lighten my bio load. (Bought the tank with fish included in the sale) But my only real interest lays in the RTC, the others, premium food, LOL!

to the op if you realy want to boost the groath of your pacu and rtc than some calcium supliments and high proteen foods are the way to go if you have not done much resurch on paco they do like the ocational frute like sliced bananas and apples. frozen peas also mine used to snatch frute right out of my hand and those flat crushing teeth they have realy hurt when they get ya . pacus are kind of like a pitbull they grab with alot of force and if they like what they got then they wont let go just so ya know.

hi, thanks for all the replies, hard to muti quote all since, i'd have to read them all over again, but few points has been taken.

-thanks for all the concern about if i don't know what i'm doing. as i said i do know about these fish, and a friend owns a plat rtc (only 4 people has in canada), and i know he just pump it with beef heart. but i'd like to try different stuff as it adds more nutritious value to it.

- the sump i have was used to filter 778 gallon arowana, 3 aros, lots tigers and parrots, the sump was only running with 1 slot of media, i am currently running 2 slots full of media on this sump, it goes up to down, not a horizontal sump....as you guys should know the water chemistry on aros.

-thanks for those who supported on the monster fish keeping. as i said, the zoo will take it.

-i give pacu carrots to bring the color out. -beta carotene

-also multivitamin is mainly made of iodine (hope i spelled it right), which is what seaweed is or shrimps

-below is picture of the food i just made consist of....
raw shrimp
dried shrimp skin (krill)
carrot
multivitamin (iodine)
omega 3
fish food flakes
raw squid

enjoy the sushi :D

Seems like you know what your doing:) Anyhow Beefheart does pump them up but sometimes hard for them to digest. I use to feed 2 large 2ft RTC's I had before chopped beefheart into cubes and they use to puke it up all the time. Gets really messy and makes your water bad. Right now I have a near 20" RTC that I feed full market prawns and full lake smelts and it never pukes.

dont let ppl get u down i dont have a rtc but do have 6 pacus ,oscars, and 3 clown knife fish in different tanks if u do ur research u should be ok. u have a good sump sounds like if u r wanting more try some hob aquaclear 110 they work great or a good fx5.

a 220 will sustain ur lil guys for a while not its whole life but its not like itll be 3 weeks from now . i cant understand y ppl gotta flame on someone for having a fish they dont agree should be kept . if u think about it nothing we house our fish in will ever be big enough since they come from some of the largest rivers in the world.
