OK so i havent been on this site in a long time so im not sure of what im doing so if this thread is in the wrong spot or something just tell me thanks

So here is whats happened ok so i have 2 largemouth bass that i found in a puddle that was about to dry up they are about 1.5 inches and im just wonderin how to raise them. right now they are just in one of those guppy breeder things because i cant let them into the main part of the tank because my jack dempsey will eat them. he has some kind of fungus tho and i think he's gonna die :( so the bass will inherit the tank soon. but ummm im just wondering how to raise them (what and how much to feed them and stuff like that). i found a bunch of little half inch baby fish in other drying up puddles and they eat them but like i said the puddles are drying up so that sorce probably wont last but a week or two. so yeah i could really use help from anyone that has experience or knows what they're doing. Thanks for all replies i appreciate all help

You can feed them worms and insects, but they also like to eat other fish. They will eat practically anything that hits the surface. Also, what size tank do you have?

Worms and other fish are their main diet mixed with frogs, rats, baby ducks, lizards, and snakes. In an aquarium worms are king along with feedr fish. Try to get them onto pellets and supplement nightcrawlers now and agian to save time and money on feeder fish.

So your just letting the jd die off without even trying to treat it? And your bass are in the same tank, so they have a good chance of getting the same fungus....

I would try to wean them over to frozen food, such as bloodworms and brine shrimp. And eventually if you can on to pellets. It is difficult to do but is possible. Just at it and they should eventually start to accept these.

I cant help the JD believe me ive tried for over a month and its only gettin worse. and i try to give them (the bass) tadpole and they wouldnt eat them and ive tryed some other stuff too the only thing they seem to want is tiny lil fish and its a 38g yes i know too small but theyre only an inch and a half now so i got a year before its too small.

Your JD probably brought that fungus upon himself as a way to get out of the 38 gallon. It's so cruel to keep a JD in that small of a tank.

I got my bass on flakes at around 1.5"-2", it wasn't that hard. Just keep offering flakes and nothing else, they will start to eat it. From there move up to pellets. If you give those bass proper care they will probably outgrow that tank in less than six months...they can grow over an inch a month and one 5-6" fish in a 38g would be pushing it, two will definitely be too much. You still have the problem of the bass being exposed to the fungus, so you may want to figure out a way to treat it.
