how to raise largemouth bass ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As previously posted, I'd make sure the tank was "clean" before dedicating 2 largemouths to it. Whatever your JD has may be on your filter media, your substrate, everywhere else in the tank.

ok thanks guys oh and its only a 4-5 inch JD i think he's ok in a 38

oh and if i do get them on flakes and pellets will they still be able to have live foods every now and then?

yup that is good as it helps to diversify the food they get

I caught a few tadpoles this morning out of a pond and was wondering about them. My O ate them with no problem. I let them in 1 at a time and made sure he saw them before they were outta the net. As got some mosquito larva out of the same place that my angels made quick work of. Good luck with your bass. Cool and random fish to have.

im also looking into getting atleast one LMB once i get my 55gal up and running, should be a cool fish to own. i dont think raising a LMB would be much different then raising any other fresh water predator. give them a good clean place to live, plenty of food, and some tank mates that wont become food.

Your going to need something quite a bit bigger than a 55, so hopefully you've got something planned. They are great fish, very hardy and interesting pets.

yes i do, i have a 120gal planned for the future. i plan on getting the LMB at a length of about 3-5 in at first, so i should have some time to get the 120gal up and running

Micropterus especially small ones need to be fed a variety of things, and as often as possible IMO.

I had a dolomieu that grew outrageously fast...but also required tons of food. Started him on live mosquito larvae.

High fat/protein content is also something to look for.
