How to reduce flowrate?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So the amount of watermovent isn't the problem... it's the velocity of the water coming out of the spraybar...

larger holes or more holes will both reduce pressure inside the spraybar thus reducing the velocity at which the water leaves the spraybar... although it is possible that you need to do a bit more than add/enlarge holes...

I like the idea mentioned above of adding a second spray bar or other output.

Bigger hole did not do much in my 226, so i doubled the holes and added 2 at the back of my spray bar and now the current has lessened but the fish food would still get swept to the other side when i feed my fishes planning to add more holes.

But in my 2250 it made a difference in diffusing the output by enlarging the holes, I imagined how poerful the 2262 would be with almost double of the power of the 2260.

Yes that was my problem the velocity fronts don not like too much water movement they seem to be more active when the water is calmer

Howdy,

You can throttle the output valve. It won't hurt anything.

Correct. That is the official Eheim advice.

My problem now is we have a scheduled blackout every other day at a 5 hour interval so my filters are off every 5 hours

That's problematic, because canister filters turn anaerobic after only a few hours, causing your beneficial bacteria (aerobic) to die and rot. Basically, you almost start cycling from scratch after every outage. 5hours is borderline, it might be okay, but it might not be. Only nitrite and ammonia testing will tell.

You could also disconnet the spray bar and have your outlet spray into a filter sock. That's how I diffuse flow on my powerheads.

If you really want to decrease the flowrate, then all you need to do is increase the length of hose between the filter and the spraybar. The increased resistance will make it drop like a rock.

thanks guys for all the replies specially the filter sock way i might try that,

Yes the power outage is the problem we have an every other day problem so far so good have not tested the water though but the water is still crystal clear. Have been using Battery powered pump.
