I had some small 10 Neon Tetras and 3 amazon puffers. Then I bought single figure8 puffer. the figure8 puffer is bigger in size, aa.jpg you can see in the attached photo. while I had seen other 8figure puffer in the store smaller size like at the size of my amazon puffers. I am a bit worried if this big figure8 puffer reaches his old age. I dont know if he is old. he is active, he swims and eats normal and does not fight with other fishes. he is very peaceful with other fishes and all i worry if whether the pet store sold me a old aged fifure8 puffer.

can you tell if he is old or based on your experience how to tell if figure8 puffer is old?

First of all, welcome to the forum!
How big is he?
An adult is going to be 3 inches or so. They live to be about 10-15 years I believe. Not sure if there is a way to determine exact age (especially since it was likely wild caught). I can tell you that it will do best in low brackish long term, and that will give a significant increase in its lifespan and overall health.

Thank you so much for the warm welcome. I am so happy that I found this forum. The community is really friendly and helpful. I am grateful to all of users who offer support to newbies like me. He is 2.3 Inches. but the water is freshwaters. pet store told me that I can keep it with other fishes in the same freshwater. so far I have not seen him stressed or bored. the only strange behavior I have seen is, that when I put a earthworm for him to eat, he first waits until the worm is suffocated in water after the worm is dead (meaning not moving) then he will start biting and feeding on it. I was expecting that he would attack and eat the moving earthworm as soon as I drop it.

Puffers are weird. May already be adjusted to tank life enough to prefer dead. At that size, I suspect he is not full grown yet and still has a nice, long life ahead of him!

you are great! Thank you so very much for all your help and support. you are one of the reasons the world is a better place to live. I am grateful.

The figure 8 puffer will also need crunchy foods items like snails to keep beak growth maintained.
