How to seal a tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Haha good luck.

So did you reseal the entire tank to fix the one vertical seal?

Hopefully the next time I have to do this I'll be in a house with a garage or something better than the second bedroom in my apartment to work in:p And have the couple extra bucks to go buy the right tools & everything.

Fishkeeping on a budget blows.

Is it ok to use rubbing alcohol? Does it just get rinsed off after resealing the tank......then its safe for the fish?

Thanks

Great thread. Half-way through my own dramas, including reenforcing/restrengthening as it's in glass that's on the thin side (3/8ths for a 6'x24"x14" 100Gal). Cheap-junk silicone is all we can get around here, too. Might not be junk, but I don't have a lot of trust/faith.

Now, my question: does a little blood do anything bad to sealing and/or strength? I probably should have sanded the sharp edges off before I started smoothing around the triangular reinforcing plates with my finger...
No, I'm not "handy"
Yes, nearly could have said this literally.

Silicone is curing weird. All from same tube, some parts curing properly and others still tacky and smudgable after 3days.
Do I cut out and redo, or will it continue to cure so I should wait?
Pretty sure it's not the blood mixed in- there wasn't that much
